“To Hide Away”

Tyler R. Martin

A warm bath, a flick of ash, a swig of wine, a thin white line;
Oh what a day to be anesthetized and hide away as wind chimes chime.
A puff of smoke, a mental fog, the chaotic withering spiritual smog.
The outside world, eons away, sleep so soundly in shrouds of Grey.

“won’t come back”

Tyler R. Martin

I’m so alone and it’s deadly cold
In upper state New York
Surrounded by my friends by side
But they’re as frail as chalk
They melt away in the rain
And frown as the storm comes down
And in dark and thunder times
They fail to come around
Dark and drear in the lonely nights
The skies are cold and black
Dark and drear as its always here
I’ll leave and won’t come back
Leave and won’t come back

“The Ballad of the Punk Rock Star”

Tyler R. Martin

In a dank dive bar
Sat an old punk rocker,
Said he was a star back when,
At old CBs he played off key
And pissed on the crowd
As they shouted in glee.

This is the ballad of the punk rock star,
Now just a dour old drunk in an old dive bar.
But with stories to tell of his days of glory,
All different versions of the same old story.

In a dank dive bar
He sits and slowly sips his whiskey
And sings along to the jukebox,
Belting out “anarchy in the U.K!”
As he coughs out his lungs
Saying, “the tunes of my day!”

And after a few it’s always the same:
“The songs of today are a total shame!
And a disgrace the singers way back when
I played old CBs with all my friends!”

In a dank dive bar
Sits the old punk rocker,
He sips at his whiskey and orders a beer,
Slamming them down till he’s too drunk to stand
And mumbles the lyrics
To songs he sang in his band.

In the dank dive bar
No one cared too much for
The punk rock star and his time in the sun,
Never paying much attention to any of his tales
Of blood and the piss
While the feedback it wailed.

Now the old punk rocker went home one night,
Loaded up a needle held it up to the light,
Said, “missed you old friend, been too many years.
Just one little prick and it’s away with my fears.”
And with one rubber band, his bicep he bound,
Waiting and waiting till a fresh vein he found
Then the punk rock star shot it on home
Took his final breath in his room all alone.

This is the ballad of the punk rock star,
Was just a dour old drunk in an old dive bar.
But his stories to tell of his days of glory,
Were just different versions of the same old story.

“New Chucks”

Tyler R. Martin

I bought new Chucks a week ago
And now they’re dirty.
The white had sparkled and glimmered,
The black was stark, rich and deep,
The laces, pristine as fresh fell snow.
But now they’re dirty.
Now the white is grass stained green
And the laces dulled with dust
And stark black has surrendered
It’s rich deep dark to the elements.
A week ago I bought new Chucks,
And the world
Has made them dirty.

“Midnight in Maylla”

Tyler R. Martin

It was the first night since yesterday
On a midnight in Mayalla
And all the street lamps
Shuddered in the breeze.
It was the first wind
To gust the city streets,
To rattle the bones of buildings
And just slightly bend the beams.
And it was the first chill
To haunt Bose boulevard
And chatter the tarnished teeth
In the mouths of wary wanderers
Who trek the narrow streets.
The first wind of the year
(As does every year)
Marks the beginning of The Season
And not a soul of Mayalla
Was unaware of the approach.
This wind would seem but a triviality
To those unacquainted with Mayalla,
But a badness with it came
And Dread tumbled with the leaves
And shook even the corpses
In their graves.
And with the wind
The Mayalla sky grew
Cool and yellow
As the sun receded
Toward the horizon’s brink,
And there it shimmered
For what seemed a moment
As dark dusk rose
And the light
Began to sink.
For in this bitter time,
The beast did arise
To claim it’s yearly offer,
Baring it’s fangs
In form of winds and rain
As the howl of
The winds
Return His call with
It’s refrain.
So, to quell the beast
And all manner
Of His plagues
And proxies that he summon,
Will be brought forth a man
For the grand honor as he,
Screaming fit
To wake the dead,
Is bound to the great tree
For the wolves to ravish
And drag away his head.
All to please the Beast they serve
And pray he chose, for
One more year,
To leave Maylla in the peace
That it deserve.

“The World to Me”

Tyler R. Martin

You’re my baby, you mean the world to me,
But I’m standing on your outside
Gazing out into the sea,
Waiting for your ship to arrive,
Like a love lorn widow
Whose love at sea had died.

My ocean is my doorway,
As each day I pray
That your solemn Beauty
Gracefully will pass my way,
But each day doesn’t change
Like a widow’s tears before the bay;
While the sirens in the deep do sing
And Neptune holds his heinous sway.

And you, so stunning and saccharine,
Pass by my glances unaware
Of the love for you I still feel,
From long lovely legs, to golden hair,
To blue eyes that pierce solid steel
And beautiful breasts at which I stare.
Your hold on me echos through the ocean,
Through the trees and through the air;
Your hold on me, my love,
I simply can not bare.

“The Abyss Above”

Tyler R. Martin

Up in the earthly ether
A rain cloud haunts the
Oppressing all below it
And darkening
The terrene frontier.
There’s a dreary feel to all that’s here
With tears forever flowing
From the overburdened
And from it, a feeling forever
Of solitude
In all mortal souls,
And darkness draped upon
All that’s new
And all that’s dying
Dead and old.
Every graying face you’ll see here,
No sense of joy
Or gratitude
For this one more sullen day
Of breathing air
Under sky’s tears forever flowing
From the overburdened

“the run”

Tyler R. Martin

I sigh right now to see
All that banes me
Displayed upon
The TV screen.
What horror,
What malicious,
Tyrant dream,
That only as
Could be truly foreseen?
The drearily
Dark blue
With their
Badgers and guns,
Arresting a man,
Robbing a bank,
Ditching his
Day job
And was
Enjoying the run.
